When to Validate Assessment Tools
The goal of validating assessment tools is to verify that all elements, performance standards, and evidence of performance and knowledge are covered by your assessment tools. Therefore, whenever you purchase new learning resources, you must perform validation of assessment tools before allowing students to use them. There's no need to wait for your next 5-year cycle validation schedule. Validate new resources right away to ensure they are appropriate for students.
Nevertheless, this isn't the only time to perform this type of validation. Do assessment tool validation also when you:
- Revise your resources
- Incorporate new training products on scope
- Assess your course with training product updates
- Detect your learning resources as a risk during your risk assessment

Having students complete the tasks listed twice on just one baby is not sufficient.

Pay attention to lists. As mentioned earlier, if students do not complete all the tasks listed, it’s non-compliant. Each assessment item must address all specifications, or the student is incompetent, and the assessment tool is non-compliant.
Can You Be More Specific?
Each assessment item must have clear and specific benchmark answers to guide the assessor’s judgment on the student’s competence. Therefore, it’s crucial that your directions do not mislead students or trainers.
Avoid Double-Barrelled Questions
Not using double-barrelled questions makes it easier for students to respond and for trainers to accurately judge student competence.
